Can't change OS on HP Pavilion dv6

A while back I got a horrible virus on my dv6 that I absolutely could not kill. In anger I ended up giving up and installing linux. Now after multiple attempts I am unable to install a windows OS again. I have tried XP, and 7. I can usually get it to get most of the way through the process but I always end up getting an internal error message.

Has anybody had any experience with this and if so have any advice?
 
What's the exact error message you get? You might want to try using killdisk to format the drive before installing the OS.
 
I'd DBAN/Killdisk the drive and give it another shot. Did the BIOS get affected by the virus at all? Reflashing the BIOS might not be a bad idea, as well, even if it's the same revision.
