Cant connect my LCD tv

Im trying to connect my laptop to my tv, I managed it on the family tv downstairs after a 30 second delay. But when connected to my tv in my room it only displays when booting up or shutting down.

Do i need to change my settings? How?

The dual screen stuff is confusing! :eek:

My laptops on Vista and tv is HD
 
I used to run a dual monitor setup, 22" Monitor and 22" LCD HDTV.

Whenever the TV was hooked up to the computer, it would display the booting screen on the TV and then go back to the monitor once the computer started up.

After you boot the computer, do you lose both images or only the one on the TV? If the image goes back to the monitor on the laptop, you need to change the display settings so the TV is the primary monitor.
 
Lol, that happed to me with 32" HDTV it showed boot up then it said "No signal" I just brought my 22" inch LCD out there and used Nvidia Control panel and started messing with the settings took me total of like 3 min to get it to work

Yes i have the same problem, Ive tried messing with the settings but im not getting anywhere cos i dont know what im doing! lol

Whats Nvidia Control panel? Do i need it in my life? lol :gun
 
Okay so boot up the computer with the TV attached. If the TV is on the correct input, it should display the boot process. As long as this shows then there should be no problem setting it up.

After it boots, it should load up on the laptop monitor.

1. Right click the desktop
2. Click NVidia Control Panel
3. Under the 'Display' section, click "Set up multiple displays"

You can either select to run dual monitors or run the TV alone. Let me know if this doesn't fix it.
 
You're right where you need to be in your second post.
Where the second monitor is (the grayed out one).

Click on it.
Check 'Extend My desktop onto this monitor'.
and then check 'This is my main monitor'

If nothing shows up, try bringing the resolution down. If for one reason or another it is set out of specs, that might be why you're not getting video.

EDIT: I'm guessing your TV runs at 1080i, so try resolution settings of 1900x1080, for instance.

Thanks guys, Tv is 720p, i even tried putting res on minimum but sill nothing.

720p HDTV's maximum res is 1360x768 resolution. It will be able to handle these res;

1360 x 768
1024 x 768
960 x 600
800 x 600

nothing above that will display, due to only having 768 pixels accross the screen. On most laptops there is a button that is combined with the function button that either will clone both the laptop and the device connected to it, only send one signal to the attached device or only display the screen on the laptop only. This I believe is the easiest way to switch from a TV to a laptop display.....if it works and it should. How it works is by holding the Fn button found on your laptop and pressing the designated key that has a pitcure of a square box with a line and then a picture of a computer. If its connected, the picture should switch over to the TV and the desktop, hit it once more and it should switch over to only the TV with max res (aka 1360 x 768).

So the symbol kinda looks like the following;

I was guna watch a movie but just realised i'd need some kind of sound cable, Think i'll just buy a dvd instead! lol
