Can't download Windows updates?

I just did a fresh reload of Windows XP Media Center then installed SP3 and still I can not get Windows updates. I have a Dell Dimension E310 (old I know).

When I click "windows updates" it tells me that it is checking for the version of software using ActiveX. Then I recieve a message "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem".

I have been out of the "loop" of computers for a while. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

It seems any new install of XP is having issues with connecting to the windows update page now. I read a page online about Microsoft has updated their servers and this is causing the issue. I've done 2 fresh installs of XP for my clients and have had the same issues. I got one to finally update but not the other. Make sure you are running IE 8 first of all before trying to get windows updates.
