Can't figure out the BSOD

the story: I got a PC my dad got somewhere really cheap. it was missing RAM and a power supply. I added those and the windows started up the first time. it automatically did some updates and then I turned it off. I decided to clean off the HD with a format c and reinstall windows.

When I started the windows XP install from the CD it did all the preparing stuff and when it wrote at the bottom "starting windows" it crashed to bsod.

I believe this to be the error code: *** stop: 0x0000007B (0xf7b0c524, 0xc0000034, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I can't make out shhh out of that. So I tried a different windows CD and still got the BSOD. I thought it may be because of a virus and since I didn't care for anything at the HD atm I formatted it through command prompt. Still BSOD.

I read about different things that may cause BSOD and did checked the HD for problems through command prompt ( Can't remember the command.. had to google it) and it found nothing. I tried changing ram, just in case, but that didn't work either.

I took the HD to another computer and installed windows there with no problems. bringing it back to the original computer it got the BSOD at startup. ( windows doesn't start loading )

the next thing I did was pull out my hair.

I don't know where the problem is... mabbe CPU or IDUNNOO... hope someone can help me.

I can't remember the excact specs but from the BIOS menu I can read out:

AMD Sempron 3200+ ( 1.8 ghz )
1024MB RAM
some sort of ASRock motherboard ( can't find the full name of it )

Are you running a SATA hard drive? If so, look in the bios to see if there is an option to change sata controller to IDE mode instead of Ahci. It's blue screening because you need the controller driver at the beginning of windows installation.

Err.. I can't tell that... but.. I found that under "IDE configuration"

OnBoard IDE controller = Enabled
Onboard SATA Controller = Enabled
SATA Operation mode = non-RAID (with options to change it to RAID or AHCI )

That's really the only things I can find about something to do with a HD in the BIOS

Wait!!! You said you installed windows on that drive while it was in your computer and then put back in the original computer? You can't do that. Thats why you are getting the error. You need to install windows on the drive while its in the system that its gonna be used on.

right, now I know...

But in any case, as I said, it won't start the windows installation.. it still gives me a BSOD

Is it a Sata hard drive though? It still maybe possible that you need the sata controller driver installed. What motherboard is it? I had an old asus board that required the controller driver even though i wasn't running raid or ahci.

problems problems problems

STEP 2: Make a SATA / SATAII driver diskette.
A. Insert the ASRock Support CD into your optical drive to boot your system.
(There are two ASRock Support CD in the motherboard gift box pack,
please choose the one for Windows® 2000 / XP / XP 64-bit.)

I dont have that cd.. and never have...

a 5 min search on google didn't give me one so I'm leaving it at that, as I have to go to bed. If anyone can help me at that, please do, although if not, then no matter, I'll continue my search tomorrow.

I did that and had a good feeling about it...

but I celebrated too early

bsod at the same time, when the setup writes "starting windows" at the bottom after loading the files...

If you aren't too savvy with computers, you might have to take it in to a shop and have then do it for you or find a computer savvy friend to help you.

the point of all this was to have it working an then sell it for a buck or two... and the guy at the shop would probably ask for an arm and a leg for it... and I'm, the computer savvy friend who everybody usually turns to... but.. nevertheless... thank you
