Can't find external Docking harddrive- Help

Here is some more detailed information for the detectives who think they might be able to help me
My harddrive works (I can connect it to my computer directly)
The few times I can see my harddrive in the docking station (the few times (like 1 out of a 100) when it works) it appears under “hard disk drives” in “Computer” and not “devices with removable Storage”

When the hard drive docking station is not detected I can’t see it under USB controllers in “Device manager”
 
If you can hook up the drive directly and its fine but are having issue with when connected through the dock then its a dock issue. Either a power or data or just a hardware issue with the doc itself. Are the cables secure to the drive in the dock?
 
It's possible the dock itself is defective. See if you can get it exchanged from wherever you purchased it.
