I have a compaq computer and i wanted to restore everything to factory settings. So i put in my recovery cd and chose the option for factory restore and it prompted me to push any key so i did and after that it said "Quickresote error #102:4" and said to push any key. So i did. Then it went to a screen that said "working....." so i waited for about two hours and nothing happened. After several attempts i started looking for another way to restore it but i haven't had any luck. :( any help would be appreciated.

also i've tried to look for "system recovery" but all there is is system restore and on there there is no date for the factory restore.

well, it is either you call the company where you got your PC from to get or purchase a recovery DISC or i suggest you buy a new window. don't want to get all your stuff erased? buy a cheap hard drive install a window you prefer then you will have access to your old hard drive.

this happened to me before. ended up buying the disc and reformatting the window

ya. i want to delete everything and start clean but i don't have an xp cd, and usually i can just pop in the recovery Disc and choose the option to delete everything but the option isn't working. Could having to hard drives (one master and one slave) cause a problem?

My opinion is to borrow a friend's CD, or buy a new copy and then, reinstall Windows by erasing the Windows directory. It will be prompted if you leave the system intact.

it may. but i would think they would of thought of that. i would just try taking out the slave and try again just for debuging

i have an integrated graphics card and one in a pci slot. right now i'm using the pci one, meaning the integrated one is the original. So what if the pci graphics card isn't part of the orginal system and needs to be hooked up to run the cd?

well i fixed it. turns out you had to take the old card out and hook the monitor up to the old one because that was part of the factory settings.
