Cant format my computers HardDrive

i want to format my hard drive so i can get rid of everything on it and then install a fresh copy of windows but when i got to my computer and right click and click format it says " You cannot format this volume, It contains the version of windows that you are using. Formatting this volume could cause your computer to stop working" and i cant do it when i try 2 reinstall windows either beacuse when it asks me if i wanna delete the partition i say yes but it says something like i have another version of windows on this hard drive and deleting it could cause it not to work. can someone help me so i can delete everything off my harddrive?

You cannot format the drive in Windows itself as you are using it. Go into the BIOS and select first boot from CD, save and exit, reboot your computer with the OS cd in and take it from there. You will have the option of formatting and partitioning before the new OS is put on.
