Cant game online! HELP

OK, i wanna play bf1942 online, and i have good dsl at 54mbps. whenever i try to join a game, it will say error can't connect to server, whats wrong?????
 
Do you have nortan or other internet secruity? malke sure thats allowing it, also possibly a firewall is blocking it?


as a side note, 54MBPS????!!!! dang thats fast! people say they wish they had my 5Mb connection! haha.
 
thats what it said it was. But it went all the way down to 10mbs and then slowed to 1 right before i left, i'll try tommarow
 
U probably see 54mbps because u have a router connected or your connected to a router. That speed refers to how fast you can transfer files to other computers in your LAN. Theres no way regular dsl can be that fast.

good dsl at 54mbps? Are you sure that's not the wireless router speed? The fastest dsl i ever heard was 15mbps.

Make sure you don't have any firewalls blocking things.
 
ok, i'll check out the firewall stuff and junk, and i think it must have been 10mb or 1mb, cause for like a good amount of time it was going at 10mb, but then at like an hour and a half later it went to 1mb. idk

anyway, so i dont need to download updates or do i?
 
sorry, not port 80 i was thinking of something else, the game will have a specific port that it chooses to route gaming traffic through, if you are behind a router then you will need to find out the port and forward it to your internal IP address.

i was on my laptop btw, and through a wireless connection with a linksys router. and now it don't really matter becuase i only got to stay up there 2 days.
BTW: i was at my uncle's where he has a wireless connection.
