hi, i've been trying to get a freinds computer going now for a month or 2.... been trying to replace almost all parts.... i just recived the cpu (754 amd athlon cpu)... and the mb was tested by mercury fine... but now after i hooked it up, i push the power button and with all the ram in... the cpu fan spins for couple seconds..no video.. then off... so i tried pulling out all ram... it stays on but no video.... so then i put one ram stick in the dim2 slot... it stays on but no video.... and then when i put one rma stiuck only in dim1 it stop.... what might this mean?... could it possibley be mb shorting out off case?, thxs, shawn

can you get to the Bios settup, look for a resume last state option.
this is a long shot but i had a MoBo that had that same issue

Clear the bios on it for a start, hopefully you will see a battery on the board you can take off, whip it out for 30 seconds or so then put it back in. Check the mobo manual too, there might be a jumper setting that allows you to clear the bios too, worth using that too just to be sure.

Then double check the mounts and screw points, ensure that none of the screws are touching circuit paths or anything on the board.

Then give it another whirl

ok, i',m getting very frustrated.... i looked at screws... nope... its odd how it only shuts itself off when ram is in... but when ram isn't in it doesn't beep or anything.... anyother suggestions?

resume?... i can't even get video....

" resume " like start where you left off.

Example with a Bios that has resume last state and its turned on.

If you boot the system with no video card and pull the power right after the error while the mobo is at a " stop state ", then you put a video card in and plug the power back in and attempt to boot. the system will " resume last state " meaning it will resume right back at the point when the power was pulled and will not even check for the video card. this will happen with any error that halts the boot process.

if this is the case clearing the Bios will clear the " resume last state " unless on is default for the Bios but it will also clear the last state in the Bios.
