cant get mouse to work

I literally just got a new ZT Notebook, its their "M" Series apparently.

Im running Vista which is new to me, plus im a long time desktop user, so the notebook itself is somewhat new, ive just used other peoples.

Now with any other laptop ive ever used, if you plugged in a mouse, USB or otherwise, it just automatically took precedence over the touchpad, and the touchpad either went dead, or could be used with the mouse.

The mouse is an A4 Tech 5-button USB mouse, it recognizes and installs fine but wont move the pointer.

The touchpad just shows up as a PS/2 mouse I guess.

I just want my mouse to be in control when its plugged in, and i would prefer the touch pad to go dead, because I keep dragging my wrists on it when i type, and it does weird stuff haha.

Between me hitting the touchpad, and the fact my Shift key is half as long as it used to be, its taken me an embarassing amount of time just to type this post!

One finger typing most likely. Now is the drivers/software for the usb mouse "Vista ready"? oops! With a 5 button MS model here the software and drivers are strictly XP where you have to download a Vista update in order to use it.

Besides that however the most common problem seen with a cursor locking besides a need to clean the mouse itself(optical - soft cloth for finger marks) would be a problem with the video drivers if the drivers for the mouse are compatible for the new version.

well, all i did was plug in the mouse and Vista went to town installing it, so I assume the drivers it installed are Vista ready.

I might to download some later, one can only download so much on dial up at one time. Im just assuming all the drivers are working fine, I literally took the thing out of the box a few hours ago.

Most likely if this is a recent model not one seen back in 2006 the support is there. The MS model of course is much older but is MS. It's likely more of a video driver issue anyways.

In the device manager you can try right clicking on it there to choose the update driver option. By letting Windows search that will show if the latest drivers are on for that model.
