cant get much of an OC out of p4 prescott

ive got a p4 3.0 prescott
on a p4p 800se asus main board

with 2 512 3200 corsair value memory sticks

im using the AI booster program that comes with the main board to OC it

i cant cahnge the multiplier but i can change the bus speed

im able to get it to around 215 before i get a blue screen

isnt that awfully loW?

that only gets me to like 3.2 ghz

i realize the mb and the memory are only rated to 800fsb and at 200 i am there but why cant i get any higher

im running a thermaltake silent tower

idling at about 34
or pretty much as low asi can get the case to be

and under load im at 46 under torture test with tons of crap running

the case is usually 3 degrees under the core under load
and right at tthe core when idling

i also have a prolink 6800gt

power shouldnt be a problem
i have an antec tru power 430
i think that what its called but it should be adequate

so whats the deal?
 
Have you raised the vCore at all while OCing? There could be not adequate power reaching the processor even if your PSU is powerful enough.

the AI booster has an option to allow it to control voltage

and a guage to tell me where it is

when i get up to the 3.2 area my coltage drops to like 1.3
when its at 3.0 im around 1.35 v

so maybe thats the problem?

what would you say i should bump it up to? 1.4?
or are we talking very very small increases
 
you may have read it 3 times but i still dont think you got the jist of it (you also refered to you board having 800fsb, which if you had read oc101 you'd know that doesn't exisit. The internal cpu bus is 800, but your fsb is 200)

You need to be jacking up your vcore as you push up the fsb mate. So for every 200mhz or so you may need to crank vcore up by 0.05v

Also your ram comes into play, are you running a divider? Have you upped the vdimm

And its best to oc from bios not from windows.

i did know it was was 200 mhz and 800fsb is marketing Bs but i figured people would pick up on what i was trying to say


ok nm i see the oc 101 was updated hmmmm

anyway ill have to try bumping up the voltage to the core to see what that does

im not sure how to jump the voltage on the memory
any suggestions?

There should be a memory voltage selector, not sure where it is on the BIOS you have. Go to the ASUS website and download the BIOS manula for your board. It should show you where to change the vDimm.

Well the smart thing would be to ask those questions.... and get them answered ... of course using your own logic, since you're not asking any questions about stuff that was left unanswered, you already know the answer.

If AI booster doesnt allow you (i dunon never used it), use the BIOS (or just dont OC the RAM if thats an option)
 
got it

i tried again today and bumped the vcore at the same time and actually got somewhere
i got it up to 3.4 today
im going to keep at it

Im trying to decide if i shoudl even do it since i dont have any lag issues and the only reason im doing it is to learn about it and see what i can do
