Can't get temp readings from E8400

First I'll say that this is the fastest processor I've ever witnessed. The system in my sig just flies, running Vista. It completed 1m in SuperPi in 14 seconds.

But I can't overclock it because I can't get any temperature readings from it.

Intel TAT says it's an invalid processor. SpeedFan reports a mess of things that are clearly inaccurate. PCWizard 2008 reports 38C for the processor and 43C for each core. The problems with that are:

a) That's way too high, and
b) It never budges. All three temps remain the same on full load and on idle.

I googled "E8400 temp" and found a bunch of posts in other forums with similar problems, with my board and with other boards, and other programs, but I like this forum better.

Has anyone with this processor had a similar problem, and maybe found a potential solution?

Its a known problem, i guess you'll just have to deal with it.

What does bios say?

Its either the sensors in the chip, or temp monitoring programs just don't support it yet. no one knows for sure.

I have also heard, on these you dont look at the "core" you look at the "cpu" temp.

I believe the BIOS said something in the vicinity of 35C. Definitely not accurate. When you say sensors in the chip, do you mean certain chips in particular or the series as a whole?

About all of them are having this problem, most likely mine will too :(

If its not the thermal diodes in the chip, then its poor software support. Which i hope is the problem.

I believe it's software support. I had some luck with CPUID Hardware Monitor. I was able to get each core up to 50ºC. Apparently, it won't report temps lower than what I thought it was stuck at, but it will report temps higher.
