So i installed vista (and it was very slow because of AHCI mode or whatever) and at the last step it was going very slow and lagging
We restarted the computer and now i get the message
"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "Ok" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."
I built my own comp and pretty sure all the parts are compatible and compat with vista and windows 7
So ive tried various vista recoveries and programs to wipe my hard drive but none of them actually ever boot
When im stuck at the screen with the error message i can open the cmd box

what specs are your computer, just so we can confirm it is compatible.

are you performing a fresh install or using a recovery cd or upgrade cd? have you ensured that the installation CD isnt damaged or got any dirt on the cd?

if you have tried various times to install and the disk is clean try installing linux if no success id say you have a defective hard drive

Even AHCI mode shouldn't be too terribly slow. It sounds like you might have some other issues. As john suggested, testing your RAM wouldn't be a bad idea, but I'm still wondering if it's something else...

Perhaps one of my first tests would be your hard drive. Vista's not quite as bad as XP was about loading SATA drives, so try and load those during the installation. Get the latest ones from your motherboard or chipset's manufacture's site. If the problems persist, maybe look for some software off the hard drives manufactures site and see if it tests alright.

Specs:
Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3LR LGA 775
VisionTek 900244 Radeon HD 4870
Sunbeam PSU-COM680-BK-US 680W
Intel Pentium e600 Wolfdale 2.8GHz
Samsungg CD/DVD Burner Black SATA SH-223C-OEM
Had a Seagate Barracuda 400g but wouldnt show up on the vista installation screen ( Vista wont load on it anymore) Now im using a Seagate Barracuda 160g
Then not sure about the RAM because had to buy from the store but it was DDR3 4g
Was a budget build under 600$

It was a full vista disc
Then ill try the RAM test but the only time ive been able to get a disk to boot was the Vista disc
I have tried setting my boot order to CD first and tried booting from the boot menu but no disc would boot
