Can't get WiFi on my laptop

Hi all, I'm in the Philippines, I'm using my tablet, for for some things I need my laptop, however I can't get WiFi..troubleshooter says to turn on my WiFi capabilities, the WiFi key is always lit, this is the first time I have tried to connect to WiFi on this laptop, in network WiFi connections there are 2 networks, both with red x through them, broadcom, and Microsoft virtual miniport. It's an HP laptop HP 625,using windows 7 ultimate, please advise, thanks

Right click it and select Connect?

If not, go into the adapter properties and make sure ipv4, ipv6, and the networking protocols are ticked. Open up ipv4 and ensure you arent trying to connect with a static IP address. DNS can be automatic, or you can set it to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4, doesnt matter.

When right click on the network, hit connect, box comes up in lower right, says not connected,no connections are available. On the networks, all boxes are ticked, and all on automatic settings.

Orange light is always on , on keyboard, and when pressed does not go off

What if I uninstall the driver, and try to reinstall,
Of course there is no way for me to access the internet on the laptop, any ideas on how to reinstall driver?

Also, it says, wireless capabilities are turned off, but like I said the amber light is on

Sounds like your wifi driver software may need to be updated. I know from experience that HP has good support. Go to HP.com, click support, type in the name of your laptop, under download options click get drivers, software, and firmware, Select your language and OS, click Driver-Network and download the network driver you need based on the brand name of your wifi card.

here's a link to the support website for your laptop

Is there a way to download these drivers on my current tablet, then transfer them to the laptop? I do have a USB cable, thankfuly I brought it with me

Yes if you have an android tablet then all you have to do is plug it into your computer using the USB cable that came with it and your computer should read it as a media device and you search for the folder on your tablet which you downloaded the file to and copy and paste onto your computer. If you have an iPad however I don't think you can do that.

Okay, I reinstalled the adapter, and installed HP WiFi assistant, I'm now
picking up a signal, including the name of the WiFi network, when I put the PW in, then hit OK I get message that says .windows was unable to connect to....(network name), dionostics says ''investigate router or access point'' but this can't be the issue because I'm getting OK here with my tablet, anyway I don't have access to the router.

Sounds like you're not connecting to the network. You still need to select the wireless network to connect to.

Unless you're looking at the Broadcom ethernet.

Try this. Go into network and sharing center. On the left find where it says manage wireless networks and go into it. Find your network name and remove it. Then try connecting your network again and reenter the correct password. Sometimes it can get corrupted.

Okay, fixed the issue, I just signed into a different windows user account and it's working now, downloading the HP WiFi assist really help ed, thanks john35,and everyone else, great advise, AAA
