My pc crashed due to a virus, and my buddy set me up with a new HD and installed windows 7 Ultimate on here. Everything seems to be working fine but im trying to get some of my programs back on here and ran into a few problems installing cd's.

Im trying to install some video editing software and I put the disk in the drive,it shows up,I hit autorun and it starts installing with install wizard and then nothing. The software window is up,the install tab is at the bottom of screen and if you click on it nothing happens and if you right click it only shows "close this window" which also does nothing.

So I hit exit on the software screen and when that disappears I see demoshield 7.0 for a second and that is as far as I can get with it.

I dont know much about this stuff,so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Did he install a genuine Operating System and not pirated? Either way, sounds like a corrupt windows install.

First:

  1. Click Start
  2. Type: CMD, from the results, right click CMD
  3. Click 'Run as Administrator'
  4. At the Command Prompt, type: sfc/ scannow

This will check for any integrity violations, let it finish, and then restart your system with the Windows DVD inserted and boot from it.

Then:

  1. When asked if you want to boot from your DVD drive, do so.
  2. Choose your language, click Next.
  3. Click 'Repair your computer'
  4. Select operating system you want to repair.

Let it repair and finish.

Once back in Windows, update windows completely. Restart, and try installing your applications.

If the above doesnt work

  1. Click Start Orb, in the start search box, type Services and press Enter.
  2. Scroll down and find the Windows Installer. Double-click “Windows Installer” in the Services list.
  3. On the General tab, make sure the service is started under “Service status”.
  4. If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.
  5. Click Start Orb, in the start search box, type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER, and then click OK .
  6. Click Start Orb, in the start search box, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then click OK . After you run this command, the operation is complete.
  7. Now, try your installation again.

Well because it's pirated we're not gonna help you. Next time have your buddy install a legitimate OS.

Install a genuine copy of windows and I'm sure you'll see that everything works as it should.
