Cant install windows XP?

I am trying to install windows xp on my laptop whic came factory wit windows 7. I put the install disk in and it wont let me click on "Install Windows XP" button. Wen i boot my laptop from the CD it freezes on the black screen that says something like "Press any button to continue"

I am on an HP 2000 Notebook PC.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Why would you want to install XP over 7? XP isn't supported in another 199 days anyway.

Second, even if you were, you'd have to be sure you can find device drivers.

They'd have to be drivers specific to the hardware on that computer, not just any old driver.

Anyway, to install you need to boot to the CD and press any key when it says "Press Any Key To Continue". Then go through, delete any existing partitions, and install XP.
 
I would definitely dual boot and try and get used to Win 7. It is a far far superior OS and shouldn't take very long to get used to. Also if you like the 'look' of XP, that's not hard to achieve in Win 7 either.
 
Do you have the SATA controller drivers for your laptop on a floppy so you can install them during the XP install? Otherwise, make sure you change the controller in the BIOS to use IDE mode instead of AHCI or you will encounter a BSOD during install.

Anyway...do what STROLLIN said.
Usually in the BIOS you have either IDE or AHCI.
IDE is sometimes called COMPATIBILITY in some BIOS versions.But it's the same thing.So be sure you set it to IDE (COMPATIBILITY).
If you made your own XP disk in which you have already put the SATA drivers then you don't need to do this.Otherwise you must.Here is an example:

Also be sure that the XP disk has SP3.On some hardware you will ALSO encounter the BSOD during install process if it has SP1.Of course this applies for modern new hardware.If it's old then SP1 will work just fine also.

Travis if i were you, i would install win7 because xp is no longer supported
i had the xp installed in my old Sony Vaio and it started to do what you are stating, i have the original xp cds that came with the laptop but i tried to recover the ops with the cds but no avail i think i missed the drivers since nothing is supported from windows anymore, since i did not want to sopend any money ,besides win7 would make it to slow. i took other route,forgot the win ops and went with Linux Xubuntu and was the best decision i ever did cause it works like a charme.
