Can't open certain sites and programs

A while ago, I suddenly couldn't open a couple of sites, and just got the message that I had no connection. This happened only to a few sites, and always the same. Also I couldn't connect to steam, and some media players online didn't work, such as on imdb.

This only lasted a little bit, but a few weeks ago it started again. It's only happening to my computer, the other ones on the same network works.

Here are some of the sites that just tells me I have no connection:
knv.hfk.no (school's homepage), just stopped working a few days ago,
yr.no (weather forecasting site),
bergenkino.no (local cinema),
Sorry I don't remember any English sites atm...

As said, it happens only to my computer, so it's nothing wrong with our network. I'm not sure if this is why, but I can't update windows or itunes either. Windows update gives me this error code: 80070539
 
Do you have google desktop installed? If so uninstall it and try updating? What operating system are you running?
 
Forgot to mention that. I don't have Google Desktop. I have searched a little around for that error code, but couldn't find any that helped me.
I have Win 7 ultimate, 32-bit.

There could be so many things causing thisproblem:

DNS , Your Router, Firewall, TCP-IP Settings, IPv6

Check the DNS setting of your connection and router. Try google Public DNS (8.8.8.8 , 8.8.4.4). Check your router and Network Card settings. Check your firewall if you have any. Most of the time firewalls need to be updated. In your firewall settings check to see if you are not blocking UDP or TCP/IP connections by mistake. Again in your firewall settings see if you have all the signatures enabled. Open CMD and type:

ipconfig /flushdns

See what happens.
Try to connect to the sites using a proxy, and see if the problem still persists.
 
How far back did you try going? I really can't explain why only a few sites aren't showing up.

Do you have IP address and DNS settings set to automatic? Did you try the ipconfig /flushdns command?
 
Sorry for being a little late.

SO if as you said you could connect using a proxy. There should be something wrong with DNS. Try checking out the DNS settings both in your router and your connections in connect to panel.
Most of the time ,if this is the case, we can say:
1- Your ISP has some problems. And you have to contact them and see if there is a problem with their system.
2- The sites have forgot to re-buy the Address or Domain name.

You have nothing to worry about. Cause your system is OK. The problem is most likely from the outside.
 
If it's on the router it wouldn't happen to only my computer, would it? Also, I don't have too many computer skills, so what should I do to check it?
