so i am trying to dule boot vista and linux but i cant seem to format my hard drive. i tried partition magic but managed to distroy my data :P. but when i used it it said can not format drive. i have a hp dv9005us (should add to signiture) any suggestions?

so this is like i can split a partition. ie i have my partition with windows and i can split it to two with out losing data?

Partition magic is so simple to use....just create another partition and take the space(However much space u need) from your windows drive and set it to a Primary drive and NTFS and apply the changes.

then once you have done that its restarted your system your new partition should be shown as another drive.

then all you do is boot off your Vista cd and install it to that new partition and it will automaticly do the dual booting for you.

its very simple.

but i already have vista installed and dont want to reinstall it. also i cant just take data from my drive. it does not like being repartitioned.

Download Gparted, burn it onto a disc, boot from it, and split the partition. Make sure your linux partition is ext3 and your windows one is NTFS

Try using GParted. Download it, burn it to a CD, then boot to the disk and partition away. see if it works for you.

so i heard :P. but this is like partition magic. is my question, it will not harm my vista partition already. so here is my config now

C:/ (80 GB) vista
D:/ (20 GB backup/restore
e:/ hp's quick play partition. (hidden)

after i run it i want it to take like 15 GB from C:/ and make a etc3 partition but i dont want it to harm my vista (C:/) data
