i'm having a problem with my desktop computer . .
i uninstalled a programe yesterday and turned off the computer . . now i want to use the computer but i cant press on any of the icons on the desktop and can't prsee the start button . . also no icons appeas in the notification area . . can any one help please

Boot it up into safe mode... When you turn the PC on, start tapping F8 until it comes up with a menu. Select Safe Mode with administrator rights (or something similar). Then try re-installing that program.

What exactly was the program you uninstalled anyway?

i don't want the programme why do i have to re-installing it. i want to use the computer i can't access anyrhging nothing is working . . i have an exam 2morwo and all the important folders are on the desktop

Firstly, have you even tried booting into safe mode?

Secondly, what was the program you uninstalled? (if you don't mind me asking).

when trying safe mode
i got
safe mode with networking and safe mode with command prompt
which one should i choose

i got another screen that gave me 2 options

microsoft windows Xp professional(bootscreen)
microsoft windows Xp professional
which one should i choose

Microsoft Windows XP Professional

and if that doesn't work try

Microsoft Windows XP Professional (bootscreen)

i got a screen telling me that i'm using safe mode shall i press yes to run the safe mode or no to use system restore to restore my computer to a previous state

has anyone else used the computer immediately after you uninstalled the program cos it sounds like someone has hidden the icons on your desktop and replaced the desktop with a screen capture of your desktop

no no one uses the computer, i'm the onley one who uses it, plus if it is a picture how comw that i can't press the start button

but this is not the problem, i entered the safe mode and i can actually use the programmes, i need the exams folders and the exam problem is done, please i want to fix the computer ! what should i do ??

i don't remeber it's name , but i also unistall 180 search assestant

you mentioned that you uninstalled this program, do you have any free software running on your system as it may be dependant on this program. also, a virus scan would be productive

i said i can't use any of the programmes and can't use start or any of the icons on desktop? how can i scan with out being able to access programmes

ok, do you have norton antivirus?
if you do boot into safemode with networking, then go to http://www.x-setup.net/downloads/home.asp?lang=EN and download xsetup pro from one of the cources available.
once you've installed it open it up and select classic. then go to startup/shutdown -> startup -> run on next boot -> run norton antivirus scan on next boot.
this will only work if you have norton of course. other than that i cant really think of something to help cos ive not come across this problem before

thanc a lot i've fixed the problem by system restore . . i don't have time today to check what you just said . . i'll check it 2moro . . cause i have 2 exams . . wish me luck
