Can't put the ink cartridges in

I just bought an HP deskjet 2050 from the store, and I can't figure out how to put the ink cartridge in. I don't get an error message; it just physically won't go in.

Judging from the looks of the ink cartridge slot, you would think that you just slide the ink cartridge in, like an NES game. But no, it won't fit.

I know it's the right size of cartridge, since it came with the printer.

How do I put the ink cartridge in?

Well, you're right they should just slide in. Some ink carts might come with a plastic piece covering the electrical contacts, make sure there isn't something that is supposed to be removed from the cartridge first.

Already took it off.

Is there a specific direction it needs to go? I'm pretty sure I've tried sliding it in from all possible angles, but there could be an angle that I missed.

The metallic contacts (probably gold/copper colored) should be facing the printer as it goes in. I would imagine there would be a picture in the instructions.
