Can't reformat

My monitor light does not turn green until the desktop is loaded. It's not the monitor, because the same thing happens when I try it with another monitor. Because of this, I couldn't reformat the usual way so I tried to install xp by loading the setup from the desktop. After restarting, my monitor would not turn on at all, and now I can't access anything. Please help!

Two things are likely there. 1)disable onboard video in bios setup if the board has that. 2)possible problem like a defect with card or not large power supply and signal arrives late following post tests.

Item #1 refers to how onboard video and not having the PCI/AGP or PCI/PCI-E setting in the bios set for the appropiate card as well as can interfere with any expansion card installed. Item #2 would be a defect with the card or possible need to reseat it down in the slot. Or you bought a high end card and the supply doesn't meet the minimum requirements or the extra plug needed wasn't plugged in.

I do have 2 VGA ports, but the other one is not working. When I plug in the monitor to that port, it does not turn on at all. It's an nVidia geforce fx5200 and I do have the driver for it, but when I try to install the driver it says "The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit." It shows up in the device manager as a driverless Video Controller.

Btw, I'm able to see all this because I plugged in an older HDD, which is completely spyware overloaded.

Without having a working device driver on the default vga drivers in Windows automatically take over. But even with only those your card sounds more like the problem.

The monitor should still kick out of standby even before Windows starts to load in order to see the post screens. First the monitor needs an input signal apparently not being sent immediately by the card.

I would suggest at least trying another card to see if that's where the problem is. If you then see a normal display you will know the old AGP model needs to be replaced. What board are you running there? A look at the specifications will show if that has onboard video or not.
