My subscription for CA (Computer Associates) has expired. I had the Security Suite with the firewall, Pest Patrol, Anti-virus and spam filter. I don't want to spend any money on it to renew it.
I deleted all items in the add/remove via control panel. Cleaned out all leftovers in the program files.
I tried to download the free version of Zone Alarm but got a warning that it could not be installed because EZ Firewall was still on my computer and it had to be removed. I opened HiJackThis and found an entry for it and removed it. The same problem persists. I ran CCleaner and checked the registry and saw this - -
HKCR - Applications\ca.exe\shell\open
I preformed a "regedit" and found this entry - -
HKEY -Classes Root/Applications/ca.exe/shell/open/command and in the right column the following - - (default) - Reg SZ - C:\program files\CA\etrust ez armor\etrust \ez firewall .....
Question - I am afraid to delete this entry as I don't normally go into the register. If I delete this entry should I try it using CCleaner?
Also I found under HKEY - local machine a key for Computer Associates with their EZ Armor suite files. I guess I could remove all those keys as I'm not using their programs anymore. Should I remove what I have outlined and then restart and try to download ZoneAlarm again?
