Can't Renew IP address (Limited Connectivity)

Hello,

I have an XP laptop connected to the internet via a USB 3g stick

It is configured for shared connection and wired via ethernet cable to an XP desktop.

Was working great until today.....now have limited connectivity on the desktop internet connection.

Tried all the network setting and command prompt "fixes" out there.....but can't renew IP address

"Repair" in Local Area Connection properties ends with same result.....can't renew IP

"ipconfig" says......unable to contact DHCP server

Replaced the Desktops ethernet adapter card.....same problem.

Please help as I am truly lost.

Has anything changed on the desktop you were sharing the connection from?

edit: maybe I read this wrong.

Can the laptop still connect to the internet? Have you checked that internet sharing is still configured on the laptop? Have you checked your ethernet cable?

If it is limited or no connectivity, try going to the adapter settings, go to TCP/IP or IPv4 properties, and put in your Subnet, Gateway, DNS and IP manually in, if it works, then its something at the access point's end, if not, it may be your computer somewhere.
