can't see SATA hdd

I bought a western digital 260gb SATA hard drive, took out my shitty IDE and put it in my external pod and when i tried to format my hard drive and install windows on it, it said there wasnt a hard drive installed, please install an IDE hard drive for formating to commence. Help would be most appreciated
 
XP doesn't have SATA drivers in the installation. They should come with the motherboard CD, you will need to create a driver disk from there, and press F6 when asked (towards the start of the windows installation) to install SATA or RAID drivers. You will then need to install the drivers from your newly created disk. If you don't have the drivers or motherboard CD, you can usually download them from the net.

I have tried to put the drivers on a floppy, but i got errors in the setup. ive also tried to download the drivers and put them on a floppy, this resulted in errors too. I have an asus a7v600 mobo, can anybody help me?
