Can't seem to overclock 2500k

I recently bought a 2500k (all other info in my sig) and am having some trouble overclocking it. I only touched the multiplier and set it to 4.0 but it never seems to stick. The strange thing is that I generally don't get any errors/BSOD's. It's after I boot into windows and check my system settings that I see it's still at the default 3.6 Ghz.

What could be the problem people?

I'm assuming it's something incredibly simple I'm overlooking...

Thanks for reading my post,

Good day

try disabling the turbo and speedstep if they are enabled, they may interfere with the OC.

Other than that, your multi at 40 should net you 4Ghz and you should be able to hold that on a 2500k on stock voltage.

Another thing that comes to mind from GPU OCing, if there is an option for it, try choosing "force constant voltage" or disable auto volting. That may affect the OC a bit too.

A question about how the hell to overclock my cpu ^_^?

1. AMD or intel?
2. answer is: BIOS and change some settings. keep in mind that intel cant always be Overclocked, only unlocked cpus from intel can. so like 2500k, 2600k etc.

And non russian Vodka will not get you drunk.
Every Intel CPU can be overclocked. It is just a matter of how hot it will run and how stable it will be. The Sandybridge processors tend to be unstable when overclocked from the FSB, but it can be done. For a long time it was the only way to do it.
