hi, is there any software, free or not that can allow me to capture audio that is in a video and then save that music file for later use?
thanks

Well... I don't know if Windows Movie Maker can extract audio, but I do know that something like Audacity will simply record whatevers playing though your speakers...

i tried windows movie maker, but i think the video i want the music of is a bit dodgy, seeing as it made WMM crash after i tried to import it, every time.

i just tried audacity, i tried importing MP3 file, it imported something but not the music, it sounds as if the music has been super speeded up, and there is only 30 seconds of what should be 12.5 minutes. how can i set up Audacity to record whatever comes out of the speakers??

In the Line In sampling box, there is a Mixer button-click on that and go into Options then Properties. Click on Recording and select the recording source you want to use. Like I said you may have to play around with it to find what works. You will also have to play around with the recording levels to get the volume you like. Then just go back to Audiograbber and type in a track name, play the file you want to record and hit record button. It will save it as a .wav file. If you want to make it a MP3 file you will have to adjust the MP3 settings in the main window.

The Help file is really good. I would suggest looking through some of it.
