Card gets really hot..

So the card i got is a ATI Radeon HD 4850 which i just put in my stock computer case which was a compaq computer(small case). The card ran at 90c+ at idle and with some newer games even overheated a couple times. so i bought one 80mm fan for the back of the case, that lowered maybe 1 degree at most but was still running around 89-90C at idle. Also upgraded the PS along with the card. So now i thought with the small stock case maybe it wasnt getting enough air circulation. So i went ahead and bought a brean new case that came with a 120mm fan. This actually lowered the temp to around 85-86 at idle(some games still temperatures get to at least 100C).

So now i don't know what to do, i know a gpu card is not supposed to run that hot. I don't know if i can do anything else to cool it or if i just need to invest in a better GPU or does this card known to run hot? P.S. checked the fan on the card itself and it is running.

first step, clean it out. As in use a can of compressed air and blow it into the exhaust port at the back of the card. Test temps then. If they do not improve, then download MSI afterburner and use it to crank the fan up to 50% plus.

Ok thanks, i will go buy a can in a bit. And download that program. I can crank it up to 50% only when i play certain games?

as long as the program is running, then the cards fan will run at the speed you set. I have mine (reference HD 4870) running at 50% idle and 75% in game and I average about 70* temps.

Thanks that program works good. I got it down to 80c with the fans at 50%. Anything more is too loud unluss i really need it for gaming.
