Card Queries

Apologies for another thread asking the same question, but what Card do you reckon i should get? Ive been using a 7600gt until that broke, stuck a 8400gs in as a temporary standby and am now looking to go a bit more up market!

Budget around £200 (roughly $400) Preferably Nvidia, pci-e. What do you think??

If you have a good 500w+ PSU you could go for a EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB for £193.86 inc VAT
or maybe a EVGA GeForce 9600 GT KO 512MB for £138.64 inc VAT
or if you can get a extra 50 quid on your budget get a BFG GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB for £252.61 inc VAT

138 for an E-8800gt. I would recommend the GTS variant, however on scan the price is disproportionate.

Nice one for the help guys. I was looking at the 8800gtx anyway - everyone raves about how good it is. Got a 500w psu - should be fine on that front. Would it be worth going the extra bit for the 9600gt?? (from what i've heard all games can run maxed out using the 8800)

Umm, everyone raving would be like 15 months ago, the 8800GTX is ancient now, it may still be the best card in terms of raw speed and memory capacity but the way cheaper 512MB G92 8800GTS is not that far behind, you should really be looking at the Nvidia 9600GT or if you really want to splash out the 9800GTX. The 8800GTX is a really old card and its not worth getting that, unless you can find it dirt cheap on eBay or something.

Hmm, mixed veiws then. I considered the 9600gt but its almost half the price - any reason the 8800 still held its price so well?
