Carputer

I'm doing the "research" end of building a carputer. Any of you guys have experience with such things? I dont really need help with anything, just seeing if you guys have done this before.

First off, most go with an ITX board, but i'm not a fan of the slow processors. i was thinknig about going socket A Micro ATX. Or if i could find a PS i'd go 64 bit since i have a spare mobo with onboard vid/audio. what do you guys think?

That is silly. this carputer will cost me 300-400 bucks. And be part of my car. media center, GPS, alarm, etc. it will connect to my radio. don't come here and be a jerk. I did not ask if you thought i should build a carputer or buy a laptop.

I think you should buy a laptop...you can do everything you said and it will take up far less space...if you dont want opinions then dont ask people (what do you guys think?)!

okay, let me re-phrase my question for those of you who do not understand. i am going to build a carputer. I am not sure what he is talking about saving space, as the carputer will be put somewhere out of the way. regardless, those of you who will give constructive comments with your personal experience with carputers is appreciated.

am sure i read of some people doing a project like this only recently on another forum, finalgear it was called, might be worth googling and popping over to see if they have any ideas about it too.

first off, i agree with cell4me, it would make more sense to buy a laptop, and maybe make a mount for it so it can slot into your boot, and all the cables can be extended to the front, but if you definately want a "carputer" then use google for some research, also i would reccomend making a case for it, possible out of wood, or metal if you can, as you don't want it all to be left out in your car, where it would be prone to damage, hard drives are also an issue, 2.5 inch ones aren't reccomended because they are likely to break due to the amount of bashing around, laptop hard drives are better, buy even better i would say would be flash memory, but be aware that they have a limited amount of write cycels, and would be better suited to a small linux distrp, either a normal compactflash card or possibly a MicroDrive, same size as compactflash but a mini hard drive, so you can getbetter capacity. For monitor you will want some kind of touch screen, the last thing you want to have to do is fiddle about with a keyboard and mouse on th road, although voice recognition could be an answer

guys guys guys, i know used google. i was just seeing if any of you had personal knowledge. I'm building a micro atx, mounting it in my spare wheel well. I have a 7" touch LCD. will be bluetooth enabled, have a wireless card so i can pick up hot spots. Link into my stereo. Nevermind i'll go to a topic specific forum so all the flaming and negativity goes away. thanks for all your help

I was not asking for a how to. just nevermind
