Case fans needed

I recently got a Scythe Gentle Typhoon for my CPU, and it is an excellent fan to say the least, very very quiet and they move a hell of a lot of air, I would definitely consider a couple of em:

Other than putting them in a system for a customer, I haven't used the Noctua fans that you posted, at least not for looking at cooling capabilities. When we powered up the system the only thing we could hear was the graphics card fan (Sapphire HD5850), so as far as noise levels go, they are silent.

I couldn't justify spending that kind of money for a single fan myself. I buy tri-cools which are similar and they last 2 years or so. http://www.cwc-group.com/tricool120.html
They match up model # to be the same ones you can buy on newegg but much much cheaper. Can buy 4 fans + shipping for the price of 1 of those lol.

Low I can hardly hear all 4 of them running (not counting gpu/140mm/120mm from CPU). On Medium its a bit more noticeable but that is with 4 of them on. Mind you the dB is higher on these than the Noctua but I can't find the CFM on the Noctua page.

59 cfm

Thanks for the Scythe recommend, and I certainly will consider them.

The case is desktop and the fans will be on either side or top/bottom depending on how it's positioned. So silence is a main goal. The case has good cooling attributes for what it is.

Thanks for the input Twist. Seems like those Tri Cools are molex? I don't know. I'd like to connect them to the mb tho. Yeah, I know there's some for less that would do :). I seen these.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999072 ... but didn't think they would move quite enough air, but maybe so. I don't mind the extra for the silence and if the warranty will replace them for some years. Fans are 20% of @ the Egg right now, but I definately will look at your site, thanks. Here's the specs on one of the others:

I wonder how to best configure these 4 fans in that case? It will have a gpu eventually. Hopefully soon lol. I could mod the case If it needs it or would help a great deal. Make a vent or make a place for a small intake fan above(since it's lying flat right now) the cpu fan. The cooler is the vortex Plus and it pushes the air down thru the hs and across that area of the mb.

Any thoughts?

Yeah they are molex which can be a downside to some people. What I did was route them all behind my motherboard and as they are double ended you can chain all of them to 1 molex connector. My buddy actually runs 8 of them off 1 molex lol.

@The case
Doesn't seem as though you have ANY 120mm slots on that case. Least according to Newegg they are all 80mm slots, even the low profile cooler isn't 120mm :P. Do you plan to cut the 80mm to size in a 120mm fan for the case?

Everyone always laughs at my case. lmao too...but I like it.
No cut! Those side grills are 80 or 120. I have 2-120's in there now.
and there's no room behind/under the mb. But the cleanliness of the space is surprising.

I was thinking 120 near the (eventual)gpu pulling in. The 120 next to the cpu pushing out. And havn't decided on having one of the rear 80's pulling in and the other pushing out..or not. That would make it 1-120+1-80 in & 1-120+1-80 out. Possibly have the 120 in at a higher speed than the 120 out since there is an open vent under the ps.
What do you think?

Im a fan of Scythe fans also... I have 1 of these as an exhaust fan, 1 on my heaksink, and I also have the 140mm version as an intake fan on the front.... they move alot of air 110cfm, and arent exactly loud but now exactly quiet either. They kinda fit in the middle. They are 3 pin and also come with 3pin to 4pin molex adapter. Also if you need something a little quieter they come in lower RPM variations not just these 1900rpm'rs

No I don't laugh at your case...its just not sure why you have 120mm fans in there when all of them are cut for 80mm. Seems like your wasting cooling by using the larger fan as it is blowing against itself. See what I mean?

Also I don't see why those scythe wouldn't work. If you 2 in the back 1 up top and 1 on the side you have a easy 2 in take and 2 out take then.

For case fans, you'll want more intake than exhaust fans, or use more powerful fans for intake and less powerful ones for exhaust.

The reason for this is that otherwise, air will be sucked in through all the gaps in the case, attracting dust from the outside.

This way most of the dust will accumulate on the fan filters if you've got any.

Don't look at CFM, look at static pressure (H20/mm) - higher is better.

the only problem with the static pressure fact is a lot of the descriptions given on sites dont offer this stat :(

Thanks linkin. I was thinking that when I bought the ones I have, but wasn't sure.
And thanks everyone.

I've decided (unless someone comes along with a better idea, or says why not)to point the rear 80 nearest the middle of the case inward to draw cool air in over the mofset cooler and the area of the mb it will reach, along with supplying some cool air to the cpu fan. The other rear 80 in the corner will vent. The thought is this will also negate or equalize the pressure caused by those 2 fans. Then static pressure can be created with the 2-120's. The one nearest the hs venting on low speed, and the one directly across on the other side of the case the case(which would also help cool the gpu) would bring it in at a higher cfm.

I've also decided on the Noctua's since they are $22 shipped. They seem to fit the quiet/adjustable bill well, and because of the common size and 6 yr. warranty, they'll be usefull down the road.
