Case recommendations

Hey guys,

I need a case for a new build. I'm planning on getting a EVGA nForce 780I motherboard, Q6600, GTX260 AND I'm also installing an 7950GT (Secondary video card)

I'll put in two hard drive and one DVD Burner, so I don't really care how big are the drive bays. I'll buy a separate power supply.

I prefer a mostly black case. If it has a window, it should be big (take most of the side panel) or a case with no window that would be easy to mod to put a window in. I would prefer some kind of rubber rings for the hard drives. I don't really like the tool-less plastic crap some cases have for the drives or the expansion slots, it's not exactly hard to use screws.

I would like to stay around $100 CAD +/- $50.

I prefer to shop at:
http://www.newegg.ca
http://www.tigerdirect.ca

Local shops:

Thanks for any help!

Nice! That's a good one, fits my criteria very well, thanks a lot jevery!

But would a GTX260 fit in there? The 5.25" Drive bays seem... close.

Any more recommendations?

i would go for the antec 900, or the antec 900 v2. the differences between them are minimal, but the flat black paint inside the v2 would make me lean towards it. if you wanted to save some money, you could easily paint the case yourself.

i'm a sucker for anything painted flat black. IMO, the 900v2 with the LEDs converted to red is the best looking case on the market.

Don't think so. The 260 is 11" my 4870 is 9-1/2" and I've got about 1-1/2" clearance between it and the HDD cage. You'll need to be careful in case selection to fit that monster. Wish I had it though. I'd get the Dremel out and shoe-horn it in there somehow.

Not bad. Is the top fan installed by default to be pushing air in or out?

Keep 'em coming!

haha. Maybe I'll just do that.

I'll second the antec 900 v2 I have the antec 1200 and its basicly the same.
It has dust filters and what not, the fan on top is an exhuast fan.

i thought the v2 just had the holes cut into the mobo tray? i always figured the antec 1200 was the only one painted black inside too lol :o

I second the Lian-Li PC-7B excellent case for modding. And even if you don't mod it, it has great stock features. The build quality is awesome.

The Lian-Li PC-K6 and the PC-K7B also look really nice. Although they don't have an aluminum inside, they have precut cable holes for cable management and overall great quality.

That K7 is perfect. The price is right (on sale right now), and fits most of my criteria, thank you very much for this find.

I can't find it on LIAN LI's website though.

EDIT: Found it here

Coolermaster Centurion 590

I got one, with fans on every slot, with a RED theme.

Very nice case.

And there was enough space for my GTX295...

But I bough anouther HDD 4 in 3 module and put a red fan on there, and now my GTX is getting pure cold air, with lots of space to spare

the Antec 900/1200 or the Coolermaster CM690 or the CM690 nVidia are the best cases IMO

The Coolermaster 590 has taken the best traits from the 690, and improved on the design.

Mainly, in front, where the HDDs go, the fan blows INTO the case, creating circulation, whereas on the 690, its blocked my the mounting wall...

Nice choice, the K7 will fit your 260, and I really like the understated, though elegant look. If you haven’t yet browsed the accessories at Lian Li’s website, you’ll find a nice selection to help you keep your wallet slimmed down. I’ll probably go with the same case when I make the jump to the huge video cards. Good luck with your build :good:

Thanks, should be a fun build.

The Antec 902 (900 v2)would probably be best for you. As far as I've heard, it's the same as the 1200 case but is 3 drive bays shorter. It has the same cable management options, and the 1200 is great for it.
