Ccleaner question

I've used Ccleaner for some time now (thanks Johnb35!), but now have a question regarding regcleaner.

When I open this utility and conduct a scan, it shows quite a few files with which there are 'issues'. When I check the box to fix issues, I'm asked "Do you want to backup changes to the registry".

I'm not sure what that means, or what will happen as a result. I thought I'd ask before pushing the button. Brilliant, eh?

Don't use Regcleaner. There's no benefit, and you're more likely to mess something up.

CCleaner's registry cleaner is OK and whilst I haven't seen any obvious benefit from using it over the years, I also haven't screwed my PC up because I used it. But I agree with the others there's no real point in using it so don't bother. I rarely bother now.

But to answer your question basically it will save the registry keys that it will delete to your hard drive so that if it deletes them and something goes wrong you can restore the keys.

I've done a registry clean with CCleaner and severely screwed up my Games for Windows Live install so bad that I had to reinstall Windows in order to get it working right again. However I've done it before countless times and never have a problem. I have no problem running a regclean but ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS make a backup. As for if they actually make a difference, I don't have enough evidence to suggest one way or the other.

Why is a topic on Ccleaner in a Security sub forum? People seem to think it removes virius or some crap. It's just a temp file cleaner.

But I digress. The registry cleaner or Eusing Free Registry Cleaner is good to have if you remove a game or program manually and not with add/remove programs or Ccleaner's add/remove under Tools. Because the game or program will have registry entries left over that will have to be deleted in order to install the game or program again.

Of course Revo uninstaller can do this too which is a tool you should have installed. I also use System ninja as it finds stuff Ccleaner doesn't. You will be surprised how much crap it will find.

Revo uninstaller is a very good program and use it all the time. As far as using a temp file cleaner, I run Ccleaner first and then use TFC(temp file cleaner). TFC always removes more then Ccleaner does.

The thread is fine where its at.
