CCleaner?

What are peoples opinions on CCleaner for registry clean-up? I use it only for registry clean up because I don't know what the other clean-ups do...anyone know what they do?

Thanks

I do not recommend using the registry cleaner part of it. Just do the main cleaner. This will only delete temp files and such and will not touch the registry. You can do harm by messing with the registry.

How serious of an issue is the registry clean-up? I've cleaned it about 12 times now and had it fix each issue without REALLY looking over what they were :P...I haven't had any real issues with the laptop though...They use this program at my university for the IT dept so I semi-trusted it (they're hiring me in the fall so I am kinda part of them lol)

Most of the time from what I have seen it removes unused file extensions other things. The increased performance from doing a registry clean is very minute compared to what damage it could cause. You could end up making the system unbootable.

That would not be very good :P...Well I just deleted 18k MB from just the "windows" setting...I'm guessing these were unused things from simple applications like IE and Chrome...

Yeah, just open the program, make sure you just click on the cleaner box and click on run cleaner. Again, I do not recommend using the registry cleaner or any other registry cleaner for that matter.

Love it. I use it all the time, on literally hundreds of computers (free for commercial use!). I have John's attitude towards all other registry cleaners: risky and borderline pointless. But CCleaner has not once caused any sort of issue I could find, and even if it did it prompts for a registry backup on every run so reversing the damage would be easy.

I've never had issues using the registry cleaner. Most are pretty sketchy and want you to pay but I've never had issues with CCleaner. Messing with the Registry definitely can cause issues but CCleaner has never caused it for me.

I rarely use the registry cleaner. CCleaner is a great program for removing temp files and stuff though. I always use it. :)

I use Ccleaner and the registry cleaner regularly for about two years, never had a single problem with it...

I have to say I have run ccleaner registry cleaner numerous times and never had a problem, the only problem I have ever had was with jv16 which is a more powerful reg cleaner, but to be fair I think it was more me not taking the time to carefully check what it was removing.

I honestly do not use Ccleaner.Instead I am using Eusing Free Registry Cleaner already for 5 years. That program is designed to clean ONLY the invalid registry and does not clean anything else. And that's great because that is the only thing I want.
Every time before I restart or shut down the computer,I use it to clean ALL invalid registry before performing RESTART or SHUTDOWN.

And I never had a problem with it...NEVER.It really cannot cause any problems though...since it cleans INVALID REGISTRY ONLY and INVALID is something what is not usable and not being used by anything or WAS used by a previous OS update or a software which you have later uninstalled and the VALID registry values from it/them now became INVALID registry values. So in that case it is perfectly safe to delete all those invalid registry values and that is exactly and the ONLY thing what Eusing Free Registry Cleaner does.

I don't really like programs which can clean so much stuff lol...since you can already do that using built-in windows tools. All I need is something to clean invalid registry values and NOT tons of other things not related to the registry lol.

Thanks guys! :) I'll use the registry clean up once a year or so I guess? And I'll run the other cleaners once a month/week! I always love having more room on my small HD so this will help a lot!

I love CCleaner. I've used it for years and if I have any questions about a file that is listed in the registry cleaner, I just uncheck it and let it take all the rest of the crud out. Plus if you are nervous about using the registry cleaner, just back it up before hand. It prompts to do the backup.
