CD Burner Problem

For some odd reason, my CD-DVD burner is not detectable by any burning software, my computer recognizes it, it can play movies and audio CD's perfectly, it just can't be detected by any burning software. I recently have upgraded from XP SP2 to the new SP3 that i bought awhile ago and just was sketchy on putting it on. At first i thought it was the drivers, i actually still do, and the EMachine website told me to download the driver detective and use it for free, however as soon as it scanned my computer it wanted me to pay so i gave up since I don't feel like spending money on something i may only use once.

Any ideas on why it can't burn?

Try this workaround. Download the latest firmware version of your burner from its manufacturer's website for the Windows XP SP3 operating system. Then install it to your computer. After that restart the computer then use some burning software like Nero.

well, i don't know the manufacturer of my drive, it's a emachine i bought from walmart just to get by for the moment..

If you go to properties of that drive (right click on the drive), flick through the options on the top, (i.e. find hardware) it would say what it is, also it will say in the device manager
