I have a Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-352F and for some reason it doesn't want me to burn CD's also sometimes it doesn't want to work at all!!!
Does anyone have any ideas as why this is and how I can sort it??
Thank you
May as well get a DVDRW, that way you have the guarantee that you can play cds and also copy/write, also you will have more features on your drive, not much more money than a cdrw either

You did not say whether it ever had burned cds. What happens? Error message? Burn finished but nothing on cd? PC explodes? What software are you using?
BTW I also agree that drives are so cheap it's often not worth bothering with an old drive. If you want to go that route, no need to respond to above questions.
The Drive is only 18 months old it came with the computer. And I don't have the money to buy a new one currently.
The answers to your questions are: Yes it has burnt before, plenty of times infact! Media Player says that it can't find the device, It will not burn at all and I was using Windows Media Player 10 now I am using Windows Media Player 11 (New one, very stylish i must say) I thought if I updated it, it would work but I was wrong.
Not checked that yet it should do my boot sequence is C drive, D drive and A drive and i not had any problems booting up, but i suppose it wouldn't hurt to check it
In control Panel- System-Device Manger under IDE Controllers, click on the IDE controller that the Burner is on and under the advance tap. see if its running in UDMA mode
It helps a little if you know which IDE channel the drive is on. If it is on the same ribbon cable as your main hdd that's the primary ide channel and the cd drive would be slave. If it's on the other ribbon cable you will have to check what else is connected. Nothing else connected, the cd drive can be master. Check master/slave jumper on rear of drive and make sure it's firmly pushed in. Make note of the devices and how connected. Post if you still have problems or are not sure how to work out the IDE configuration.
Check the ribbon cable and power leads are firmly seated in the back of the drive. The ribbon cable sometimes seems in although it's not. If you find a cable is loose, don't both with stuff below, just restart pc and see if drive is now working.
Reboot and go into the BIOS and access the IDE configuration for the CD drive (primary/secondary/master/slave per above). If an Auto option is available for UDMA, use it. Otherwise try UDMA 2.
Allow pc to finish boot and answer any dialogs on finding new device. Open Device Manager. First thing to do is check it's listed in DVD/CD drives.
If CD recognized go to Device Manager/IDE Controllers, click on appropriate IDE channel / Properties. The cd drive should be "Use UDMA if enabled" and "UDMA 2"
