CD Drive Dissapeared

Hello,

Sorry, I've only just joined these forums, so this question may have appeared before.

I have XP and the problem is that when I went to 'My Computer' this morning I realised that the CD/DVD drive had dissapeared:eek: so then I went to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager I found that all the elements of my CD Drive had an exclamation mark next to them. I took a screenshot of Device Manager: -

If there is any risk of me losing any drives etc, please be kind and dont put me at that risk!!!

My Dad wants to download some music to his new Sony Bean Mp3 player (better than iPod)!!! so any help quickly would be appreciated.

Have you installed any drivers for it? Just search on google:

"drive name" + "model" + drivers

and it will come up with something.

Alternatively, you can double click on one of them, select the "Driver" tab, and press the "Update Driver" button.

Hi Rambo,

I don't know the driver name or the model. Do you know how I can find out?

Secondly, when i try to update the driver and i select "install software automatically" it cant update it, and i dont know what to do with the "install from list or specific location" option.

I'm really stuck! Please help. I'm sure there's something i can do without consulting pros.

When you check the device properties in Device Manager, what error does it give? Try uninstalling the drive, hopefully when they are reinstalled they may work correctly.
 
do they reinstall themselves

when you uninstall the drives do they reinstall the drives when you reboot?

am i at any risk of losing the drives by doing this?

sorry

when i checked the message for the drive errors it came up with this;

CD Rom Drive: -
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

H + H DVD Rom DVD-41SD SCSI CdRom Device: -
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

Etc. for all the others

Is it true that the computer cant actually find my CD Device at all? If so, what might have caused this???
