Hi all,

I have an Acer 1690 Laptop with a Matshita UJ-845D DVD Burner.

However, when I try and burn recently it comes up with 'Writer Error [Illegal Request (Illegal Mode for this Track)]'.

I've looked on google and it seems a number of people have similar problems and just download the latest firmware (whatever that is), but I can't find one for my burner ???

Should I keep trying to find firmware or can you recommend something else to fix the problem ? Why is it saying this ?

I am totally rubbish when it comes to the technical side of computers so I would be very gratful of your help :D

Cheers

Latest firmware? refers often to either updating drivers for a specific hardware device or buying a newer model device which in your case would be a different model dvd burner for the laptop. The burner there may be seeing problems with the blank media you are currently using. An older style burner will often be limited to either the dvd "-" r/rw or dvd "+" r/rw disk format.

Sometimes a memory upgrade will help with certain burning softwares. Acer's available optional upgrades can be seen at http://us.acer.com/acereuro/wr-reso...ntity13/2/US AS1800-1410 upgrades 7-19-06.pdf

As for replacement dirves at the link seen there you would have to pick one that has the (laptop) following the brand name. The standard 5 1/4" bay model won't fit at all there. The main worry here should be the blank media however since many drives will favor a brand or type of blanks.
