I have a cd/dvd burner.that wont recognize any blank dvd i put in it,it says that there is nothing in it.It used to burn dvds but now it only recognizes cds. is there a way to fix this?

ANY dvd like out of the same container or blank media by different brands? If you are seeing this with a 50pack or larger single container you most likely got stuck with a bad batch of disks. Using a lens cleaner and trying a diffent brand would be one way to see if the drive itself has no problems there.

no its any type of dvd ive tried
phillips dvd+R 10 pack
sony dvd+r,dvd-r10 packs
dataware dvd+r 25 pack

and none of them work, but any type of cd works...

What software do you use? If it was some explorer extention(where you could drag and drop stuff though say My Computer) could the program be closed that allows that addition?

Without additional software, you have to burn files though another program. DeepBurner is a free program that has worked on basically every computer/burner I've tried. It might be a way to simply check that the hardware's fine, perhaps even an alternative to your old software?

When you really need something to burn dvds you look over freewares and sharewares alike to come up with Burnworld. http://www.burnworld.com/software/dvdburning/index.htm There you can CopyToDvd 4.0 as well as Deepburner in the dvd burning section at http://www.burnworld.com/software/dvdburning/dvdburning.htm

For retail programs in order to have a full working version running NeoDVD, Cyberlink's Power Producer, Nero, and Roxio's Easy Media Creator are the familiar ones while Roxio is only used for data dvds here. You don't want to add to the problems seen there!

Besides a possible drive problem you could try replacing the ide cable the drive is on to see if that makes a difference. If you have the standard flat ribbon cable there it may have become hardened up and seein intermittent problems from that. I've been ticked at having new cables found useless at times where now I strictly use the better brand round ide cables.
