cd/dvd burner problem.

I recently built my computer and it was my first one. Everything works fine except for the cd/dvd burner. The drive can read discs but it cannot burn them. So i posted a thread asking what the problem could be and some guys told me that i needed to upgrade the firmware and i tried to do that but it didnt work right. So then they told me i should RMA or try another drive. At the time I couldnt get my hands on another drive so i started the process of returning it to newegg for a refund. Well today i got my hands on another drive thats only a cd burner. so i plugged it in and once again its able to read discs but not burn them. So now I think its either a problem with me or some problem with the way i have it hooked up. does anybody know what the problem could be??

windows media player for music i tried. then i tried to burn a data cd by just sending it to my drive and that didnt work either.
 
try downloading a software. if you just got it there should be software that is included most likely nero. try with that. also if that works, tell us your operating sys. xp,vista...
 
no the cd drive should of came with cd burning software. but if you dont mind haveing to download a big file you can get a 30 day trial of nero nero.com and use that.
