CD/DVD's audio skipping on laptop

I have a Toshiba A105 with a DVD multi recorder disc drive. When I first got the laptop in 2006 CDs and DVDs played fine without audio skipping, but now i noticed CD's audio skipping unless I rip them onto my computer. Then I tried a DVD and the picture is fine, but the audio skips unless I use DVD shrink and save the movie to my computer. How can I fix this? I really would like to watch DVDs on my computer. I have used a laser lens cleaner cd and that didnt seem to do anything. I also updated my realtek audio device driver. I have defragged, cleaned out cookies, temp files, etc, i have scanned for viruses, etc. I have also checked to make sure the IDE channels were on DMA if available. Now I don't know what else to do to fix the problem. PLEASE HELP!

Do you use your disc drive a lot? It's probably worn out. there are more things than your lense that wears out.
