CD Key game problem!

When I backed up my game files and put them back after i installed windows 7 i had to enter the CD Key but i forgot it! so i googled the cd keys for the game popped one in i found on internet xD i can only talk in the lobby can't play any games I want to delete that key and replace it but regedit won't work because i didn't install the game

FYI I OWN THE GAME so don't get all pissy with me ;D
 
Regardless if you own the game or not, you're using illegal keys...and you expect it to work? Contact the game creator and tell them what happened. If they are anything Microsoft, they should reset/give you a new key.
 
Well in the case that your key is illegit (which Im suspecting, even if someone "gave" it to you), its not going to work. The point of the key is to prevent multiple people from playing one copy of the game (key).

If the game is legit and you lost your key, your only option is to beg the publisher for another one (some of them have mercy if you can prove you own the game).

If the game is legit and you have your key, you probably installed it wrong. What do you mean by "backed up" and "put them back"? You know you cant just copy the game folder right? Theres other things thathappen when it installs (ie it changes the registry).

If you're having problems with a key you own, it would help to know what game it is.
 
I find it more strange that someone with 1,257 would ask such a question
And then admit that they downloaded a key from the Net
Plus got another key from a "friend"

In my view this thread is solved and closed (ie please close it)
 
nah i say we keep it open im curious to what game it is and yes you can not just copy game folders and expect them to work perfectly your registry changed wont be there when copying back to a new install. Although i do remember diablo 2 installing it copying the folder to a flashdrive and taking to other peoples house and playing it with out problems
 
there are SOME games that you can just copy over, diablo as you say is one, WoW is another.

I'd have thought this would have been an easy fix though to be honest: Back up your saved games, uninstall the game, reinstall it WITH YOUR LEGIT KEY, put your saved games back into the folder and ta da!! it should work with saved games and with your legit ;) key, right?
