 Hi all,

I received this email from a mate, saying that her computer was playing cd's at 78 (speed it think). Wants to know how 2 slow it down!

I cant quite decipher wot she means by 78?

Can some1 help.

theres no way it can be spinning at 78x, or at any speed faster than 52x, as shown in the above article it would have exploded
Indeed, any speeds in excess of 52X (or *maybe* 56X) are due to fancy optimizations or multiple laser etc :)

As for slowing things down, use Nero's CD Speed :)

If you've ever seen Mythbusters on TV, they got CD's spinning much faster than 52X and they didnt explode. The only way they can explode is if there old, or some defect in them. (im not saying that can spin at 200x, but they can spin faster than 52x without exploding, im not sure about lasers reading that fast, but who knows)

This thread is quite old, but I'll reply anyway :P
Even though the mythbusters (I love that show btw) were unable to get discs to explode spectacularly, it has happened, and yes usually form a damaged cd(in the case of the forum link that follows) but 78x translates to an insanely high RPM that would certainly destroy the cd. Have a here look if the article I posted wasn't good enough for you: http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t313755.html

Not saying that it wont explode at 78X, just saying that it wont explode going at 60x, since the previous thread said anything over 52x will make the discs explode.
