CD Rom Not Reading

I have installed 3 CD Roms in the past year and getting a bit tired of doing so.

When i install a new CD Rom it works fine and then a couple of months down the line it sunddenly stops reading the disk as if it has no life left. So i then buy another and that does the same again. I have also tried uninstalling the device and restarted my PC but to no avail.

Can anyone tell me if there is something in the computer that is burning the motor of the CD Rom or what i can do to solve the problem.

I have never brought the same CD Rom that came with the PC origionally, do you think i should do this?

When the pc stops reading the disk, do you mean no information is being read or the drive stops.

Even the cheapest cd rom should run without trouble for longer than you are getting. Sure the ribbon cable is fully pushed home?

If there were severe voltage fluctuations other equipment should be failing too.

Sufficient ventilation around the case of the cd drive? Best to have space above and below if possible. If computer case has inlet air filter check not blocked.

I don't suppose when it failed, you looked in Device Manager to see if the drive was still listed?
