CD Rom Not Reading

I have installed 3 CD Roms in the past year and getting a bit tired of doing so.

When i install a new CD Rom it works fine and then a couple of months down the line it sunddenly stops reading the disk as if it has no life left. So i then buy another and that does the same again. I have also tried uninstalling the device and restarted my PC but to no avail.

Can anyone tell me if there is something in the computer that is burning the motor of the CD Rom or what i can do to solve the problem.

I have never brought the same CD Rom that came with the PC origionally, do you think i should do this?

Do they still show up in My Computer when there not working, Have you checked the IDE cable at the board to make sure its not loose, or even try a new IDE cable

No it doesn't show up in my computer. I will try changing the IDE cable i have a spare one.

It can be the cables.. and the brand of your CD Roms that you are buying..

Thanks,Yes it was the cables but now i have a further problem it plays my Cd's but cuts off or jumps half way through the songs. Is this another cable problem?

Check under IDE controllers in control panel under System, hardware and see if its running in UMDA mode
