CD-ROM won't operate

EMI opera sets are now accompanied by a CD containing libretto, etc.. The first one worked fine: I was able to download and print the libretto. With the second CD-ROM, clicking on the word "libretto" caused the PC to free and I had to shut down on the tower. I then tried the first CD again and again the PC froze.

 Here is a puzzle reserved for the best brains on the forum! What is also puzzling is that DVDs play normally: one clicks on the usual links and off they go.

There are 2 different eyes to read disks in a dvd rom drive. One for cd's and one for dvd's. If the drive can read dvd's but not cd's then that means the eye or cd's has gone bad. Replace the drive.

Ordinary CDs and DVD play normally - it is only CD-ROMs which don't, apart from the first time the first one of the series was used.

cd's and cd roms are the same thing. So I don't understand what you just said. Can you better explain?

CDs containing music play but the CD-ROMs containing texts for downloading simply cause the PC to freeze, although the very first one (of three) enabled me to print out the text it contained.

CD's are the category of media, under CD's you have formats such as CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, etc.
