Cd Rom won't play CD's

I have just installed a new CD Rom. I have also installed the software that comes with it. Although when i put a cd in the dive to play it does read it but gives me a message as: "cannot play the cd. The disk might be dirty or damaged or the Cd drive might be malfunctioning.

Can someone help me with this?

you could try the windows troubleshooter, but it sounds like it could be a bad drive, check for updated drivers/software/firmware on the manufacturer's website though
