Say I have a movie that is under 700mb. Is it possible to burn in some form so that it will work on a typical dvd player? I used WinDVD creator to burn it as a VCD and tried again as a SVCD. Neither worked. Am I missing something to make these work on the dvd player? or is it just the dvd player thta is not capable of reading a vcd/svcd? It is a symphonic dvd player, not sure what model.

you can burn it on a cd-r and make a vcd, i do it all the time. vcd's may not play in all dvd players. i have one of those cheap apex ones from walmart and it works for me.
After running some different brand dvd rom and dvd-r/rw drives it's not that uncommon for a dvd drive not to read a software cd, vcd, svcd, or cd-rw. For a good vcd player Cyberlink's Powerdvd plays vcds right in the cd drive. In Walmart speaking of one store there the Sony and Toshiba dvd/vhs recorder/players run vcds just as good as dvds.

It's usually the older models that are able to play vcd's.. now, you basically have to buy one that supports vcd playback

one more question...using windvd creator, I went to burn a vcd, the movie file was 425mb, but that program says it is over 800 making it too large ot burn. Is that from the vcd menu and stuff? I dont get it. If I click on pal format, it goes back to 425mb if that might explain anything.

the ntsc format and the pal format are the color formats.

Some of the newer ones can't play them and some of the older, older ones won't play them either. You kinda have to get a DVD player in between new and old.
