CD-RW Drive Not Responding

Hi I just installed my previous CD-RW drive from my old computer to my new one and it won't respond. It installed Windows and everything else correctly, but when I boot in the World of Warcraft CD nothing shows up and when I try to go to My Computer to see whats going on it does not respond. The only thing I am using is my DVD-ROM drive which also came out of my last computer as well. What is wrong with my CD-RW drive? It has been working fine. Is it temporary? What should I do?

First thing, of course, is to double-check the Slave/Master/Cable Select jumpers on both drives, and the placement on the cable if it's an 80-wire one.
Go into Safe Mode, and then Device Manager. Check for a "X" or "?" for that drive. If it's there, delete that device and reboot to install a fresh driver.
This should do for a start.

The main CD-RW (that is not working) is currently Master..The DVD-Rom that is working is Slave. cables are in correctly (why wouldn't it be if i installed windows through the CD-RW just a few hours ago?)

lol now i switched plugs for slave and master and i switched it back and now my dvd-rom drive does not even exist.

what do you mean both cable select? Grr.. I replugged them and same problem. Now none of my cd drives work.. one does not respond now one that used to work does not even exist. Please I need a solution!

somewhere on the drive, it should tell you the settings. it is between where the ide and power are plugged. there should either be a few small gold pins, and there should be a small black jumper on top of two of them. pull off the black piece, and set it to the cable select setting. cable select is usually close to the middle, but check what your drive says to be sure.

ok, well, would this also get my cd-rw to start working as well? because my system doesn notice it but it does not respond when i put cd's in it (it does but nothing pop up when i put cd's in)

well i set it to the middle. My dvd-rom drive was already set in the middle. but i set my cd-rw to the middle and there are no drives existing now. wow!

do your drives have the settings listed on them? the middle may not be correct for every drive.

edit: what are the make and model of your drives?

well ive tried every combination possible! cable select to master and etc... both cable select... nothing seems to work out.. none of them are working!

Shut the computer down and double check (r&r) your ribbon cables and your molex cables. Restart the computer and windows should see and install.
