hi all i,ve gotta spare lg cd-rw/dvd-rom , mobel no gcc 4480 b (LG) but i have lost the software , do i need software to install into my comp or is it plug and play , as i cannot find software download on any website can anyone help

most likely it is plug and play, but the best way to find out is stick it in and turn the computer on, you won't break anything if it's not

hi tried to install cd-rw/dvd rom but will only reconize existing cd-rom ,ide cables are looped onto both devices , both power supplies work , but comp does not reconize new installATION , cannot find driver , can anyone help

You shouldn't need any drivers or software to detect the drive. Make sure that the jumpers are correctly set on the drive, if both the existing CD drive and the new one are set to the same jumper setting it could cause this problem.

If you are running WinXP then you shouldn't need any drivers to use the "Read" function of the drive.
However, to use the "writer" function of the drive you will more than likey need software such as Nero or Roxio which would have come on a CD with the drive, and in most cases requires you to enter a "Un-lock Code" that is written on the CD cover.

On the back of the CD/DVD are three jumper settings. MASTER, SLAVE, CS.
The one that is set to MASTER; must go on the end of the cable.
The one set to SLAVE should be in the middle of the cable

Their position along the cable only matters if you have them set to "Cable Select". In which case you put the one you want as 'Master/primary' at the end furthest from the MB, then the 'slave/secondary' HDD on the other connector.

If you have one HDD set to Master via the jumpers, and the other HDD set to slave, you should be able to place them in any order on the cable.
