Did I make a mistake?. I just bpurchaseda HP A6303WB Computer. But when I got home I was viewing the spec,s more closely. I notices that it has listed
under "Optical Storage for DVD-RW,R DL/ DVD-RAM,SERIAL ATA. My old computerwith windows 98.2 only has CDRW. Since all my photos are backed up on CDRW Disc. My question is will I be able to play, view or copy my old CDRW
disc on the new computer and what about all the other CDRW disc that I have.
For instance I have a Disc that came with my canon printer it has the software
on it to run the printer. Can the new system read the software disc.? thanks for
for any help. I purchased the A6303WB at Wal-Mart. Hank..

You upgraded from 98 to XP or Vista? there where driver updates if available will be needed for the printer since the original are long outdated. The new dvd burner seen in the newer HP model may or may not be able to able to read from the old cd-rw disks.

It wouldn't matter if it was simply a newer model cd writer since disk formats and drives have changed considerably over the last several years. If the files can still be copied to the hard drive on the old system you could use cd-rs or place the old drive in an external drive usb type bay for transfer.

Before that however you will have to find out for yourself if the old cd-rws can read when in the dvd burner seen on the newer HP system. If they can be read simply copy the photos and other files onto the drive there.

no worries. your optical drive should be able to read everything except blu ray and hd dvds.

Yes it will still be compatibile with your old CDs

Sometimes older disks simply can't read for some reason. Some cd-rs burned on an old 98 build with the drive then seen simply couldn't be read on a newer XP/98 build. It will mainly depend on the condition of the disks themselves.
